Answering Emails

Sent to me by email.
So i wanted to know if you are one of one of those that support CCP's idea of getting more highsec people out in nullsec. If so, do you realize whats the main reason for them not to or atleast go back to highsec? Cloaky afk'ers. Yes you heard it before and you most likely will say "meh, part of the mechanic". But you want people to take active roles in the game and as so, is AFK camping part of it? Camping entire regions like i think tribe space is atm with the russians , 23/7, you have no power of go against that unless you have a 50man hotdrop waiting on you getting attacked while you rat or make isk in any other way. You dont. The enemies have blops, sb's and generally comes in and fight you with a hotdrop. The terms are unfair and scares alot back to highsec. You have any stance on this?

First I think everyone should at least experience all parts of the game and then decide how/where to play. I understand Null Sec is a hard place to start in as its mostly covered by large blocks of players who protect their space. This is still possible but it requires people working together and making contacts to those groups already living in Null Sec.

As to AFK campers right now they are part of the game and only scare those who don't have friends. Most of the time these guys are really AFK and just sitting in space someplace. If you are ratting go in a PvP fit ship and watch local, intel and your local grid. While yes some AFK campers will have a cyno fit and a group ready to jump in this is rarer. Most of the time black op hot drops don't AFK camp but roam looking for targets who don't pay attention to intel channels or local. Yes cloaking seems unfair but really AFK camping and hot drops are easily avoidable or counter-able if you play smartly.

Now personally I do wish we had a way to decloak people or find these people so you can take some more active measures to protect your space. One way would be something like a smartbomb but it will decloak people with-in a certain range. The other way would be some sort of ability to scan down cloakers but this would become to powerful and would make cloakers useless for anything right now I just can't think of a downside to balance this out.

CSM Application Words

I've been playing Eve Online on and off for 7 years the last 3 years of which in Test Alliance. I've done a little of everything in Eve though my strengths are in living in Null Sec. I have a firm understanding of Eve mechanics and how changes could affect other mechanics. Eve should be fun for all.

While I have my own ideas on how to make Eve better I do recognize that the CSM is a group who CCP calls upon to talk about their ideas. The CSM is a sounding board, advise group and sometimes an idea board for CCP. My biggest goal is just making Eve fun for everyone no matter where you live or how you play. Right now Eve has a lot of activities that don't require the player to be engaged and at the keyboard. These activities make the game feel slow and boring. They don't need to be that way. There is a lot of ideas already started in Eve they just need to be added to or used. CCP is on the right path I hope to make sure they stay on that path. Also as being a developer for Eve related programs I'm going to try my hardest to get more open access to the API and CREST. I understand CCP needs to limit certain aspects on the API but right now somethings are too limiting and they don't need to be. I will be posting more details of my ideas on the website throughout the election. Some are already posted below and the rest will come soon.
